The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers Annual Report 202449In addition to advancing the Hong Kong banking industry, HKIB has supported and trained banking professionals from Mainland China. In 2024, HKIB hosted 28 study drives for Mainland Chinese banking delegations, including state-owned banks, visiting Hong Kong. These drives included arrangements for courses, site visits, and exchanges on various topics, including green finance, economic and financial trends, opportunities in the GBA, and digital transformation. By leveraging Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre, the Institute has facilitated knowledge and experience sharing between Mainland banks and local or multinational banks in Hong Kong. This exchange of insights has provided valuable guidance for Mainland banking professionals in formulating financial strategies for both the GBA and the global arena. Following the launch of the first paper, “Capacity Building for Future Banking 2021–2025”, in 2020, the HKMA is undertaking a second study with The Hong Kong Association of Banks and HKIB on “Capacity Building for Future Banking for 2026–2030”.
